The last few years were quite difficult for the property market in Greece. Property prices fell by an average of 20-30%, the number of transactions decreased considerably, the volume of new construction reduced due to its difficult realization.
The prices of residential properties in Greece depend on the proximity or remoteness to the coastal areas and the development of transport infrastructure. In this sense, in Greece, one can buy a cheap little apartment for around 15 000 - 30 000 EUR, and at the same time a luxury villa on the coastline for millions of euros.
The most sough-after properties are located in the resorts of the Greek Islands. In the territory of the country there are over 6000 islands, of which 230 are inhabited. Rhodes, Lesbos, Crete, Santorin and Mykonos are some of the most prestigious tourist and investment destinations. In these areas you can find the highest property prices in Greece and the weakest offering.
A villa situated at the beach of the island of Mykonos costs from 400 000 EUR to tens of millions of euros. At the same time, a studio on the island of Crete can be found for 15 000 EUR, while an elite property in Greece costs 9 000 euros per square meter. The average prices of the villas for rent vary between 280 and 1200 euros per night during the summer. The most sought-after are the resorts on the islands of Corfu, Kefalonia, Lefkada and Zakynthos.
